Cancun airport to Excellence Playa Mujeres: the quick answer

Excellence Playa Mujeres is about 30 km north of Cancun airport, a 30 to 50 minute drive. The airport transfer is free only if you booked a suite directly with the resort for 3 nights or more. Otherwise the resort's Seasons Tours SUV costs US$124 one way; a TT & More private transfer costs US$60 per vehicle.

The same rule applies to its sister resorts in the area: Finest Playa Mujeres, Beloved Playa Mujeres and the newer Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres. Is your airport transfer already free? Check this first

This is the question that saves the most money, and most transfer sites never ask it. The Excellence Collection offers free round-trip ground transportation between Cancún airport and the resort, but only when all of these are true:

• The reservation is suite-only (no flights bundled in).
• It was booked directly with The Excellence Collection, not through a travel agent, online travel site or tour operator.
• The stay is at least 3 nights.
• Everyone on the booking arrives and leaves at the same time.

The collection lists the benefit for Excellence Playa Mujeres, Excellence Coral Playa Mujeres, Finest Playa Mujeres and Beloved Playa Mujeres, among others. The Finest Playa Mujeres FAQ adds the part that catches people out: if the reservation was made through a third party or as a package with flights, transfers are not included.

That matters because many guests arrive on packages: Google Ads keyword data we pulled in September 2026 shows Canadians searching the resort name together with Sunwing, Air Canada and Air Transat. If that is how you booked, assume the transfer is not free until your confirmation says otherwise. The same Excellence Collection page says suite-plus-flight packages booked with the collection get 25% off transfers instead.

Our honest advice: if your booking qualifies, use the free transfer and do not pay anyone, including us. If it does not, compare the resort’s paid service with an independent private transfer.

What the resort’s own transfer costs

Excellence Playa Mujeres points guests to Seasons Tours, which it describes as the in-house transfer service of The Excellence Collection. Its transportation page lists a luxury SUV Deluxe at these prices:

The service includes luggage handling, and the page says a uniformed representative waits after customs holding a Seasons Tours and Excellence Playa Mujeres sign. It is a good service if you want everything handled by the resort. It is also the most expensive way to make a 30 km trip.

For comparison, our private Cancun airport transportation to the Playa Mujeres zone is US$60 one way for the vehicle, whether you are two people or eight, and our online quote shows US$110 round trip.

A worked example: what a couple and a family actually pay

Round trip, airport to resort and back, using the published prices above:

• A couple, booked on a flight package: Seasons Tours US$207. TT & More US$110. Difference: US$97.
• A family of four at Finest Playa Mujeres, booked through an online travel site: Seasons Tours US$228 for the 3–5 passenger SUV. TT & More US$110, child seats included free on request. Difference: US$118.
• A couple who booked direct for 5 nights: US$0. Use the free resort transfer.

Seasons Tours’ published SUV prices cover up to five passengers. Our vehicles take one to eight on the same fare, which is why groups travelling for a wedding or a birthday usually book with an independent operator. Bigger parties can read our group transportation page.

Four resorts, nearly one name: the mistake that causes missed pickups

The Excellence Collection has four resorts in the Playa Mujeres area, plus a namesake far to the south. On a tired arrival night, “Excellence” or “Playa Mujeres” alone is not enough.

The last row is the expensive one. A driver sent to Excellence Riviera Cancun heads south to Puerto Morelos; Excellence Playa Mujeres is north, past downtown Cancún. The two share the Excellence name but sit in opposite directions from the airport.

Playa Mujeres is also not Isla Mujeres, the island you reach by ferry, and it is not Costa Mujeres, the neighbouring zone further north where our fare is US$68. The area belongs to the municipality of Isla Mujeres but sits on the mainland, which explains a lot of the confusion.

What to send when you book: the full resort name exactly as it appears on your confirmation, airline, flight number, landing time, number of adults and children, and number of bags. With that, the driver goes to the right gate first time.

How far is it really? The sources disagree

Search “Cancun airport to Excellence Playa Mujeres” and you will read five different answers. We checked them on 30 September 2026:

The consensus is about 30 km and 30 to 50 minutes. Our own quote tool estimates about 30 minutes for the Playa Mujeres zone in free traffic, and our Playa Mujeres transfer guide gives 35 to 50 minutes once you allow for traffic and for which resort in the area you are going to. We have not seen a normal day where the drive takes 1 hour 12 minutes, and no other source supports that figure.

Plan with 45 minutes for the trip to the airport: it is the resort group’s own estimate, from the Finest Playa Mujeres FAQ. It sits in the middle of the range and leaves room for traffic through Cancún.

Arriving at Cancun airport: terminal, customs, driver

Excellence guests come from everywhere, so check your terminal before you fly. On our Cancún airport terminal guide: American, Delta, United and Air Canada use Terminal 3; Southwest, JetBlue, WestJet and Air Transat use Terminal 4; Sunwing is listed at Terminal 2. Tell us the flight number and we check it for you.

1. Immigration and bags. Keep the resort name and your booking open on your phone.
2. The sales corridor. After customs you walk past booths offering “free transportation” and “official information”. They are timeshare sales. Keep walking.
3. Outside the doors. Your TT & More driver waits on the arrivals sidewalk with TT & More signage and airport identification. Our airport pickup guide shows the exact spot.
4. On the road. The drive goes north past downtown Cancún toward Punta Sam. Playa Mujeres is a gated community with controlled access and 24-hour private security, so the driver gives the resort name at the entrance.

We track your flight, so a delay costs nothing extra. If your plans change before you fly, message us on WhatsApp with the new flight number.

The ride back: when to leave the resort

Do the maths backwards from your departure. Say your flight leaves at 1:00 p.m. and your airline asks you to arrive 3 hours early for an international flight. You need to be at the terminal by 10:00 a.m.

• Resort-to-airport drive: plan 45 minutes.
• Margin for traffic and luggage loading: 15 to 30 minutes.
• Pickup at the resort lobby: around 8:45 to 9:00 a.m.

Check-out is at your resort’s front desk before that, so eat breakfast early. If you booked a round trip with us, the return time is set when you book and we confirm it the day before.

Flying late in the day? You can also use a hotel-to-hotel transfer to spend a last night in the Hotel Zone or Playa del Carmen, or to move between two resorts during your trip.

Families at Finest Playa Mujeres: car seats and luggage

Count bags, not just people. A family of four with four large suitcases, carry-ons and a stroller needs a van, not an SUV. Tell us the luggage and we send the right vehicle at the same per-vehicle price.

Couples at Beloved and Excellence: the adults-only arrival

Beloved Playa Mujeres is for couples and Excellence Playa Mujeres and Excellence Coral are adults-only, so many arrivals are honeymoons, anniversaries and wedding guests. Wedding parties rarely land on the same flight. Costs to budget beyond the transfer

• Extra stops. A supermarket stop on the way is possible if you ask when you book, and it is priced up front.
